It’s that time of year! My mailbox is stuffed with flower catalogs. I can barely get through one, carefully marking the plants we must get, when the next one pops in. This year we are ordering a few perennials and some annual seeds, then I’ll get some annual plants locally for the planters on the porch.
We’re also trying some new flower companies. I’ve never bought from Bluestone Perennials before, but their catalog looks great and they have lots of prime varieties. Dodo Hanbury Forbes phlox is coming and so is Eva Cullum phlox.
And of course it’s time to get a few perennial asters. I love asters for their clear colors and bloom time. They flower in that awkward period between summertime with its phlox and day lilies and mums.
One reason I ordered from Bluestone is they have this hard-to-find Eupatorium in light blue that looks like perennial Ageratum. I’ve only seen this plant in a few catalogs – most places offer the larger Joe Pye Weed in the dusky purple and not this lovely soft blue.
Of course right now the garden is buried under almost two feet of snow and it’s cold cold cold here! That’s OK, I can still dream of summer and my beautiful flower garden.
