We left camping May 31 with the peonies first burst of bloom and came home a week later to a garden in full glory. Early June is incredible with 40+ peonies all flowing with flowers.
I saw this walking out the back screen porch.
The deep purple on the left is salvia, beautiful surrounded by fluffy frilly pink peonies.
Here it is with the last yellow iris.
Did you see the true blue flowers? Those are delphinium, one of the Millenium series. I love the rich blue with white bee and it offsets the pink and darker purples – perfect!
The pink and rose peonies were in full bloom June 8 although the white and white with crimson (Festiva Maxima) were already about half done. Most of the flower stems had side shoots which bloomed another few days.
The photos above are the left hand garden, which mixes peonies with other spring and summer bloomers. The middle garden has few peonies and blooms heavily in the summer and the right hand garden has peonies plus a few summer flowers I mixed in this year.
See the bare dirt (or dirt with weeds) spot in the photo above near the yellow achillea? I bought a darker and taller achillea, Coronation Gold, plus a couple phlox for those spots but something dug up the plants and ate them right down to the roots. They ate the coconut fiber pots too! Our daughter sent me daylilies for Mother’s Day and one of those is in the picture on the lower right; another planted nearby did not break dormancy.
Here is the full garden edge on, looking from the right hand bed. The other rose and pink flowers are my Sweet William which are wonderful this year, full of flowers and each one is different. They are a show off spot of color.
I hope you enjoyed walking my peony garden with me!
