Monica is a small calico with a big personality. She’s Dave’s cat, although as he says, she isn’t going to take a chance and I make a perfectly good back up. Right now Dave is out of town helping his brother recover from a broken hip and Monica is acting up.
Yesterday she kept eating the shamrock plan and the azalea leaves while I was working. Both plants are not good to eat. Small bites may not be too harmful but azaleas can cause vomiting and even death. She was bored and didn’t think I was giving her enough attention (well, no, because I was working, as in earning some money to pay for cat food!).
The shamrocks are poisonous, too. They contain oxalic acid which is toxic to people and pets and can cause vomiting (we see a theme here), bloody urine, lethargy and death.
I don’t know whether she would have actually eaten the leaves or simply pulled them off the plant and chewed them up a bit. Chewing would be almost as bad as eating them because the poisonous compounds could dissolve.
Here is Monica, walking behind the clivia in the sun room.
