We live in Southwest Michigan, where spring comes about 2 weeks earlier than it did in Midland and about a month earlier than further north. This weekend we went to a trade show in Petoskey, which is right on Little Traverse Bay (part of Lake Michigan) and about 70 miles north of Traverse City where the cherries grow.
We were not expecting to see ice on the lake!
Lake Michigan melted several weeks ago due west of us at South Haven. We watched the ice move west, from the bay towards the lake, during the afternoon. We could see the water get clear.
I took the photos with my phone since we hadn’t expected to find such a neat view. These are looking northwest from our hotel room.
Sunday was warm, high 50s or so, and alternated weak sunshine and light drizzle. That hastened the ice melt! Today it’s darn cold at home, even getting a few flakes of snow, and it’s snowing and low 30s up in Petoskey. I wonder whether the ice has reformed on Little Traverse Bay.
