My last post I claimed we were slowly winning the war against rabbits eating my flowers. Despite losing almost a third of my peonies and all our nasturtiums, I thought we had found a cure for the bunny infestation. Dave got some pellets that are supposed to get taken up into the plants to make them taste nasty and he put up a plastic hawk.

Post 1: This Means War! Bunnies, Peonies and Me: Warfare in the Garden
Sad to say, Bunny Wars are not going so well. I found these three newly dead, chewed up sad peony remnants this weekend.
Now, if you were a bunny, would you rather eat these tough, woody stems on the peonies, or the nice succulent weeds or even my cosmos? Frankly, I’d rather eat chocolate, but if I had to choose I wouldn’t go for peonies.
The peonies are right next to a patch of nice cosmos and zinnias and in front of marigolds, snapdragons and morning glories. And the newest casualties are right in front of Mr. Hawk. I guess he isn’t scary.
We’ll take another run at the critters next spring. Blood meal works great to deter rabbits when you put it on seedlings and I’ll try that, and if need be, more of the nasty stinky spray stuff next year.
