I like saving electricity for lots of reasons beyond saving money. It’s important, just like recycling. One of the easiest ways to reduce electricity consumption is to switch out incandescent and halogen bulbs for LED lights. We replaced the indoor lights we use the most often already but were flummoxed by the biggest energy hogs, our security lights.
Our house has big, bright motion sensor spotlights on the corners of the garage and pole barn that come on for hours every night. They are sensitive and come on whenever it is windy, which is most of the time here. One set was on about 4 hours every night.
Loren and I went to Menards on Friday and he helped me pick out LED spotlights to replace the outdoor lights along with an extension pole to get the bulbs into the high-up places. Then he came over and did the switch for us too!
What a difference. Now we have 6 carriage lights by the doors, 8 down lights in the soffits and 4 security lights, all LED, all daylight bright. Doesn’t this look good?
The security lights were a bit tricky given how they point at an angle. Loren managed and we now have LEDs to startle the deer and the wind and leaves in the fall.
We still have incandescent lights in the screen porch and by the pool, plus around the sides and back – figure another 18 or so bulbs – but the ones in front were by far the most important to replace. (Plus we need another couple dozen to retrofit the pillow fluorescent bulbs and the ceiling canister fixtures upstairs and down. Thankfully these bulbs last years.)
Thank you, Loren!
