We’ve all read articles about how to save money by re-negotiating our cable rates, phone rates, internet rates. Dave does this for us. Every year or so he contacts whomever provides our internet, whether cable or phone and asks for their best deal. He saves us money every year with this method.
This is the Whining-for-Dollars business model and I hate it.
We have an antennae for television plus Dave uses Amazon Prime for limited streaming and we don’t want to add a separate television package. Last year the cable company would not budge on price unless we added television – and it was a hefty increase. Dave contacted the phone company and we switched to Uverse which bundles phone and internet for about $40/month less than the cable internet plus landline phone.
Last week I got a shock with our garbage bill, almost $98 for 3 months. That covers weekly pick up only as our township provides a twice-yearly big stuff pick up and bi-weekly recycling. Our friend has a different garbage pick up that is considerably less.
First I called our current service, what could they do if we paid yearly? The lady said their yearly rate was $268 but “they might be able to do a bit better if we got a competitive quote.” The other company’s rate is $168 per year. I took it of course.
When I called the current service back to cancel the (different) lady was indignant, supposedly the first rep quoted the wrong amount. Frankly, I don’t care. I’d rather get a straight up quote that’s reasonable than go through the yearly “specials” and “competitive rates”.
How about you?
