Friday, May 15, 2015. High 70s but so muggy it feels like 90. Applied Spray-N-Grow with Bill’s Special Fertilizer.
Saturday, May 16, 2015. Finished weeding, fertilizing and de-bunnifying the last large perennial section. I’m pretty sure the odd plant coming up is the Eupatorium.
Sunday, May 17, 2015. Still hot hot hot and muggy. Planted all the perennials we bought at the master gardener sale. I took pictures and need to post. There are three phlox missing yet, Orange Perfection, Bright Eyes and Eva Cullom and several mums didn’t make it. I lost several plants we got last summer and will cover in a separate post.
Monday, May 18, 2015. Hot but less muggy and got real nice in the afternoon. Sprayed weed and grass killer, neither of which seemed to do anything to the weeds. I’ve a ton of nasty grass coming up in the long strip by the fence, the type of grass that has long (as in 1-2 feet!) roots that twine around and look like icky white tentacles. I’m pulling it up by hand but want the grass killer to help keep it down and am also spraying the other side of the fence.
Tuesday, May 19, 2015. COLD! It’s in the 40s here, unbelievable. Weeded about 4 feet of grass in the narrow section.
Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Still cold, mid 50s. Weeded more grass, about 8 feet more which took almost 2 hours.
Thursday, May 21, 2015. Nice, low 60s, good weather for digging up yet more grass. This section was a little easier with a different type of grass, shallower roots.
This leaves about 2/3 of the back strip along the fence. I uncovered a lot of lilies and clematis that are alive yet under all the nasty grass. Tomorrow if it’s warmer out I want to re-spray grass killer a little stronger solution and see if that does anything. The first application I may as well have used water.
